Preparing for Conferences and Progress Reports

Well, that time of the year is here...and I don't mean Christmas. I'm talking about progress reports. It isn't so bad if you enjoying poking your own eye with a stick. GOODNESS. I enjoy my students so much, but doing 21 one-on-one sessions to record letter awareness is enough to make me go crazy. We evaluate letter regonition four times a year. The letters are printed on cardstock and cut out into flash cards. The students are required to tell the name of the letter and it is recorded. Now, I played tennis in high school and piano growing up, so I like to think that I have pretty decent hand-eye coordination, but boy was I wrong. I had the hardest time trying to record correct & incorrect answers and flip flashcards. It was hilarous. Eh, I guess it is just first year teacher problems. If that's one of my biggest concerns this year, I'll take it! Anyways, I evaluated in September and then again at the beginning of November. I have to say that I am very impressed as ALL of my students improved. YAY!  Parent Teacher Conferences are this week. I had some last night and some tomorrow night. I've meet my students' parents before at Open House and the Halloween Party, but it was really great to chat for 15 minutes one-on-one, show them some work samples, and thank them for sharing their child with me. One night down, one night to go!
